I never understood the Hatfields and McCoys. Generations of family members killing one another over a long lost honor or pride. I understand being hurt. I understand loss, the kind so deep you forget something is gone and the hurt comes back in force, rippling through your marrow, refuting theories of time travel because BAM! There you are right back where you started when the loss occurred. Maybe I'm not violent enough, don't have the constitution for revenge. Maybe I'm more likely to kill the pain in here rather than out there. I won't retaliate against myself (or will i?), but the thought of a whole 'nother family looking to kill me and mine doesn't seem to be worth the hassle. The hassle of fear a whole lot scarier than the hassle of being numb. An imploding building only collapses on itself - you only risk stepping on rusty nails or splinters if you decide to explore the rubble that remains.
